Asteron - Notice of fund wind up

We recently received a communication from Asteron, advising that they have made a strategic decision to wind up their Unit Trust investments. This step has been taken due to their long-term strategy to focus on life and income protection insurance.

In accordance with Asteron's instruction, we will no longer be accepting new investments into these Unit Trusts, and they will be removed from our managed funds offering.

The funds concerned are the:

  • Asteron Corporate Bond Trust

  • Asteron New Zealand Fixed Interest Trust

  • Asteron Socially Responsible Investment Trust

  • Asteron Asian Sharemarket Growth Trust

The Unit Trusts are due to be would up on 30 September 2011, with Asteron making the final repayment shortly after this date, based on the unit price of 30 September 2011.

Wind up of Asteron Unit Trusts (AUT) - Questions and Answers

Why are the AUT winding up?

Asteron has made a strategic decision to close their Trusts due to their long term strategy to focus on life and income protection insurance. The investment market has been a very important part of the Asteron business to date, however as part of their more recent move to focus on life and income protection insurance, they have decided to wind up the Trusts completely so that they clients will be paid out the value of their unit trust investment holding.

When will I receive the final payment from the AUT?

We expect your payment will be made to you shortly after 30 September 2011.

May I withdraw my investment before 30 September 2011?

Yes absolutely, simply login to your RaboDirect account and lodge a request to sell your units.

Will I be charged for purchasing other Funds offered by RaboDirect?

No, if you would like to repurchase units in another Fund with RaboDirect, we will happily rebate the entry fee for that purchase (for an investment amount to the value of your withdrawal from the Asteron Trusts). Once you have lodged a purchase request for your new Funds, please notify us by emailing info@rabodirect.co.nz, and we will arrange for the entry fee to be rebated.

When will the AUT be wound up?

The Trusts will be wound up on 30 September 2011 (the "Wind up Date")

May I continue to invest into the AUT?

No, there will be no further contributions accepted for the Asteron Unit Trusts.

Will any income distribution due as at 30 June 2011 be paid?

Yes, in the normal way.

Can you advise me in reinvesting the proceeds of the wind up?

Regrettably no, as RaboDirect is not in a position of offering financial advice, you will need to consult a financial adviser for these services.

What if I do nothing?

Your payment will be made to your RaboDirect Master Savings Account shortly after 30 September 2011.
