2008

2008 Sunday Star Times Cannex Banking Awards - Best New Product

Contact iconIt has been a year of innovation among banks with no shortage of new products that redefine the markets into which they have been introduced, and it was a hard decision to select which we thought was the most innovative and important for bank customers.

In the end we decided RaboPlus's Cash Advantage Fund, which was the first tailored cash fund to bring the Portfolio Investment Entities tax breaks to the banking public, merited the awards.

The product, launched in December 2007, is a floating rate, on-call account in a PIE fund. Because of the tax break the 8.30% interest rate is turned into an effective rate of 9.92% for a 39% tax payer.

2008 Sunday Star Times Cannex Banking Awards - Best Online Savings Account

Contact iconRaboplus continues to rule in these no branch access, no frills-attached accounts, where funds can only be deposited, or removed via electronic transfer to another account. These were one of the big personal finance stories of last year. The past 12 months saw the beginning of the rise of the PIE cash fund, which complements these nicely. In this category, the savings accounts were ranked by which consistently offered the best return on a balance of $2000.

2008 Sunday Star Times Cannex Banking Awards - Best Term Deposit, 90 days

Contact iconRaboplus took this key term last year, and has repeated the feat this year, consistently offering the best return on $10,000 invested. A large proportion of savers plump for the shorter term deposit periods, and the online bank - which doesn't have to pay for branches and has a AAA credit rating (the strongest in New Zealand) from Standard & Poor's - remains a force driving the bigger banks to offer better rates.
