1. Apply for an account
You can apply to be a RaboDirect customer by clicking 'Apply Now' in the menu and selecting the account you would like to open. Please note, if you would like to open a NoticeSaver or any of our PIE accounts, you will need to open a RaboSaver first.
2. Provide ID
Please have handy your IRD number and the account number for an account you hold at another New Zealand bank. You can identify yourself electronically with a New Zealand driver licence or New Zealand Passport (or both). This will speed up the application process.
If you don’t have a New Zealand driver licence or passport, that’s okay. As soon as you have submitted your application online, we will send you an email to advise you of any documentation we may require. Documentation requirements will depend on the account type, as well as whether or not we have been able to successfully verify your identity electronically.
3. Verify your nominated account
The email we send you will also contain your new RaboDirect account number. You will be asked to make a payment from your existing 'nominated account' to this RaboDirect account number. Please enter “verify” as the reference in the payment details.
Your nominated account is an existing account you hold at another New Zealand bank. To protect your funds, any transfers out from your RaboDirect account always go back to your nominated account.
4. Welcome Pack
Once we have completed your application, we will courier your welcome pack to your postal address. It will include the Digipass (a security device that allows you to access your account securely) and instructions on activating your account. You will then be able to log in online, complete transfers and invest in our range of excellent savings and investment products.
