Our parent company Rabobank has supported cycling internationally for many years.
With the 98th Tour de France now racing through its initial stages in Europe, we’re excited to be sending two Kiwi cyclists along for the ride. Keen recreational cyclist Vaughan Hunt from Manawatu, and BMX mum Sheryl Gates from Henderson in Auckland, are off to Paris in the next two weeks with their partners to enjoy some Rabobank VIP hospitality and rub shoulders with the world’s best riders.
Vaughan and Sheryl are the lucky winners of the two Tour de France experiences we gave away through our sponsorship of BikeNZ. They’ll be hosted for the race finale on the 24th of July, alongside other Rabobank VIPs. They’ll look on from the Champs Elysees grandstand as the best cyclists in the world battle it out at the finish line.
They are both deserving winners and we’re delighted Vaughan and Sheryl can have this trip of a lifetime. Both won the prizes through their involvement with BikeNZ events – Vaughan won through his entry in various RaboDirect Recreational Ranking Series events, and Sheryl won hers through a recreational (BMX) event. These trips are just another way we support cycling here in New Zealand.
Vaughan has been cycling for eight years and is the volunteer webmaster for Bike Manawatu. He enjoys the major cycling events and is a regular at the local group rides with his mates. He’s absolutely chuffed with the prize, saying a trip to France and meeting the Rabobank pro-team on the Champ Elysees is an experience that money just can’t buy.
Sheryl and her husband have backed their two BMX-champ kids since 2004 and both are involved with the BMX Waitakere club. Sheryl says after all the years of grassroots involvement with BMX it felt rewarding to win such a fabulous prize through a BMX event. She’s looking forward to going as a spectator (no carrying bike bags, cranks or spare tyres in Paris!) and getting caught up in the excitement of the final race.
Our parent company Rabobank has supported cycling internationally for many years. Since 1996 when the Rabobank professional cycling team first formed, it has won nearly 1,800 races worldwide. It’s through our Rabobank connection we can give Vaughan and Sheryl the chance to enjoy the hospitality of our VIP programme for the Tour de France.
We are proud to support cycling and other riding codes in New Zealand through BikeNZ, and we wish Vaughn, Sheryl and their partners an exciting Parisian ride.
